Military uniform --Woodland BDU  U.S Style

The Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) were the fatigues that the armed forces of the United States used as their standard uniform for combat situations from September 1981 to April 2005. Since then, it has been replaced in every branch of the U.S. military. Only the U.S. Navy currently authorizes wear of the BDU uniform at locations such as at the U.S. Special Operations Command and other ground based Navy units.

Coast Guard Personnel overseas and working with other Military services may wear Woodland BDUs, and the Desert Camouflage Uniform (a variation of the BDU) but known by another name. BDUs are also still worn by officers of the US Public Health Service in dirty or austere environments, and is often the prescribed uniform for any deployment activities. BDU-type uniforms still see active use in other nations (most of them ex-US stocks transferred under US security assistance programs), while others are still worn by some US Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies or activities who may work in tactical situations, such as the DEA and SWAT.

BDUs are sewn to military specification MIL-T-44047E and feature six pockets, four of which with button flaps. Both seat and knee are double-reinforced and this trouser also has felled inseam, outseam and seat seam.

Other features include fused pocket flaps, a four-button fly, adjustable waist tabs with four bar-tacks and drain holes in the bellows pockets. The Nylon drawstring leg closures are fused knotted and tacked. Tactical uniform fabrics must be comfortable, durable and have excellent color integrity. Battle Rip is an all-season weight, 65% Polyester / 35% Cotton Ripstop. Battle Rip is fabric of choice for the public safety community.

Military uniform is the standardised dress worn by members of the armed forces and paramilitaries of various nations. Military dress and military styles have gone through great changes over the centuries from colourful and elaborate to extremely utilitarian.

Military uniforms in the form of standardised and distinctive dress, intended for identification and display, are typically a sign of organised military forces equipped by a central authority.

The US Army now issues, for all theatres of operations, the Army Combat Uniform (ACU), which replaces the Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) and the Desert Combat Uniform (DCU). The colour scheme on these ACUs is a faded green/grey/tan pattern of random-appearing rectangular shapes. Pocket outlines on the front of the jackets are offset from vertical, so as to present a less distinctive straight line for the eye to follow while using NVGs.

The US Marine Corps also issues similar uniforms with their MARPAT pattern, ("The U.S. Marines considered adopting CADPAT for their new pattern, however the Canadian government owns the copyright for the pattern. The Canadian government supplied information and manufacturers to help the Marines with the computer-generated Digital Pattern pixelated uniform the Canadians had been developing since 1988."http://..........com/CADPAT-MARPAT.htm though their uniforms are not designed to replace both woodland pattern uniforms and desert pattern, since both woodland digital and desert digital patterns are available. Similarly the US Air Force has begun fielding digital pattern uniforms to their service members, with those uniforms featuring a blue/grey/tan pattern).
